Mary Eileen Chisholm

March 4, 2015

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Eileen Chisholm. God took her gently home on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Eileen was born on May 5, 1928 in Edmonton, Alberta. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Stanley Vincent Maurice Chisholm and her parents, Thomas Alphonsus and Mary Cecelia Murphy.

Eileen leaves to mourn and remember: daughter, Francine Adele Chisholm, sons, Ronald Joseph (Noella) Chisholm, Douglas Michael (Joanne) Chisholm and Paul Vincent (Karen) Chisholm and seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Eileen also will be greatly missed by her sisters, Isabelle (Bob) McDonald and Juanita (Fred deceased) Wade and her brothers Tom (Mary) Murphy and Al (Jean) Murphy. Eileen was a wonderful aunt to her many nieces and nephews across Canada.

Eileen and Stan lived in Vancouver, Ottawa, and Mississauga before retiring in Qualicum Beach in 1981. They shared many family gatherings, golf games, and gardening from their home on Hall Road. Eileen was a member of the Dogwood Traditional Rug Hookers for many years and attended rug camps on the East Coast, Banff, and the US. She also had many friendships that she developed through her Thursday bridge group and Friday ladies golf group. For the past five years, Eileen made her home at the Gardens in Qualicum where she was part of the caring community of residents and staff.

Eileen loved dancing, arranging flowers, taking pictures, and going on outings to local theatre productions with the Senior Centre. She especially relished driving down to the beach to have a coffee at The Hut. Above all Eileen loved her family and delighted in their successes and challenges. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were always a source of pride and joy and she remained vitally interested in their lives to the end.

The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation and gratitude to the physicians and nurses on the first floor and palliative care units of the Nanaimo District Hospital for their highly skilled and compassionate care of Eileen during her hospitalization.

A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the Church of the Ascension in French Creek. Donations in Eileen’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Fund of the Nanaimo District Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Rest in peace, beloved Eileen.
