Mary Elizabeth Emery
(nee Bickle)
October 25, 1936 – March 19, 2014
It is with sadness that Mary’s family announce her passing on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. She was predeceased by her mother, Robena and father Dr John Bickle. Mary leaves to mourn her passing her husband of 51 years, Roland Emery III; sons, Roland (Cori) Emery IV of Comox, BC and John Emery of Edmonds, Washington; grand- daughters, Jayden and Talya Emery; and many friends and relatives throughout United States and Canada.
Mary was born in Ellensburg, Washington, the last of the Bickle line. She attended high school in Ellensburg and graduated from UBC in the early 60’s with a teaching degree. After graduation, Mary travelled from Vermont across the US to Vancouver. It was during her visit to Vermont that she met her husband to be, Roland. After marrying, Mary and Roland settled in Greenfield, Massachusetts to start their family.
In 1975, Mary and Roland embarked on a memorable trip around the world eventually retiring in Nanoose Bay, BC. Mary has many friends from Ellensburg, her time at UBC, and her sorority that she kept in close contact with over the years. She was an accomplished water colour artist, pianist and sang in the church choir at Knox United Church in Parksville.
There will be no service at Mary’s request.
