STEWART, Mary Emilie (Maier)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother Mary Stewart, of Qualicum Beach, BC on November 21, 2006.
Mary passed away peacefully at her residence at Arranglen Gardens, after a lengthy illness. Mary is survived by her three daughters, Karen Stewart (Brad Bird) of Parksville, Jenny Shore (Pat), of Calgary, and Jane Kelly (Michael), of Parksville, and three granddaughters, Megan Kelly,(11) Jessica Kelly (3) and Julia Shore (7). Mary was born in Sicamous, BC on March 22, 1932 and is survived by four siblings, Joe Maier, Frances Sherlock, George Maier, and Carole Wright. Mary was predeceased by her first husband, Gordon Stewart (1981) and son Glen Stewart (1974) and her parents, Frances and Joseph Maier. Mary lived in Calgary with her family between 1954 and 1986. Her husband Gordon was employed as a geophysicist for Shell Oil and Mary was active in the Shell Wives Club, the South Alberta Opera Association, and for several years was a ski friend at Lake Louise and Fortress. After Gordon’s death Mary married David Whiteside Smith in 1983. Together they enjoyed many years of travel, and life on the Shuswap lake where they built a retirement home. In her later years Mary remained active, singing in many choirs including Vancouver Island Opera chorus in Qualicum Beach. Since 2001 Mary has resided at Arranglen Gardens. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Arranglen Gardens who worked tirelessly to make her final days as comfortable as possible. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, November 27, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, 138 Hoylake Rd West, Qualicum Beach, BC.
