MARY JENKINS

It is with tremendous sadness that we

announce the passing of our mom,

Mary Jenkins on August the 6th 2016.

Predeceased by her husband Russell Jenkins, Mary is survived by her children Dee (Debbie), Craig (Michelle), April (Randy) and her beloved grandchildren, Kristen, Ty, Brittany (Darrin), Kevin, Taylor and several great grandchildren.

Mary was born December 8th 1921 in Chilliwack BC, the only child of Digby and Molly Waters. After the death of her father, the family dairy farm was sold and the family resettled in Qualicum Beach. Starting over, they opened Sherwood Camp & Molly’s Dine & Dance where Mary assisted her mom Molly teaching horseback riding lessons and guiding trail rides. A highlight for Mary was providing mounts for Queen Elizabeth, then princess, at Eaglecrest Lodge. Along with her grandfather, Tommy Law and mother Molly Waters she was instrumental in the development of the Silver Spurs Riding Club. Mom was lovely on a horse and won many awards.

Mary & Russell met at Molly’s Dine & Dance and were married April 3, 1954. Together they raised three children and were co-owners of Jenkins Bros.Contracting in Parksville. Mary & Russell were founding members of the Qualicum Beach Curling Club, where they enjoyed many bonspiels & “Friday Nights” with fellow curlers.

Being a homemaker was Mary’s most cherished role. From doing preserves to pulling the horse trailer with the kids in tow, she loved it all and when the grandkids came along, she was right there to do it all again. Mary was always our biggest cheerleader.

Mary rode every stride of life gracefully and was an angel on earth. She loved her wonderful friends and family deeply; she will be forever missed.

Mary’s family would like to thank everyone for their caring words and support, Dr. Desai for his many years of care, Roma Knox for walking us all through the last minutes that mom was with us, the attending first responders and the staff at NRGH.

There will be no service by request. In lieu of flowers, Mary’s request was for donations to be made to the MS Society of Canada.
