Mavis Nancy Murphy

March 18, 1929 to

April 01, 2014

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mavis Nancy Murphy, our loving Mom, Grandma, Great-grandma, and dedicated community volunteer.

Mavis was born and raised in Vancouver where she met and married George Murphy. They lived in Haney and then Surrey where they raised four children. After Mom and Dad went their separate ways, Grandma moved in with Mom and they lived together for the next 28 years, initially in the greater Vancouver area and then moved to Parksville in 1983. Mom and Grandma were great companions until Grandma passed in 2003. Mom lived out her days enjoying her grandchildren (very rarely missed a soccer game) and then her great-grandchildren who visited often.

One of Mom’s great passions was volunteering in the community she was an avid supporter of the SOS but also did a variety of other volunteer work helping kids learn to read, delivering hot meals to housebound people, doing medical driving, and more. Later she was very involved with “seniors are talking” and other senior activities, always having something on the go.

Our Mom was predeceased by her parents John and Lillian Tully and her brother Brian and she was survived by children; Tom (Karen), Doug, Paul(Tracy), Linda(Mike). Sister-in-law Myrna. Cousin Joy. Grandchildren George, Tana, Kayla, Meghan, Adam. Great-grandchildren Peter, Maverick, Cassandra, Mason, and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Mavis will be greatly missed by family and community. Love you Mom!

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Society of Organized Services (SOS). The celebration of life will be held at Tigh Na Mara on April 12, 2014 at 2:00pm.
