In loving memory ~
Melvin Roy Farries passed on December 9, 2021 in Victoria B.C. at age 87 after a lengthy period of ill health. He was born in 1934 in Lethbridge, Alberta and attended the University of Alberta where he became a mining engineer. He worked throughout the world but chiefly in Fort McMurray where he was mine manager for Great Canadian Oil Sands, and later he became the Vice President of Operations at Syncrude. He subsequently formed his own consulting company, Bitumont Engineering. In retirement he lived in Qualicum Beach, B.C. where he was active in golf and salt water fishing & boating. He was predeceased by his first wife, Joan (Kickham), and his brother, Len. He is survived by his loving and supportive wife Lorraine (Thompson), by his brother Jim, and by his three children, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. His family and friends remember him for his keen intellect and wit, tempered always with kindness and generosity.
