October 15, 1928 - October 28, 2019
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Merle Lelievre Parsons, a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend to all. Merle is survived by Jack Parsons, husband of 22 years; daughter Denise (Dean); grandchildren Melanie (Jimmy), Haley and Ryan; and great-grandchildren Dean and Demetri of San Jose, California. Merle's beloved son Ron predeceased her in 2008. Merle also leaves numerous friends and extended family with whom she was very close.
During Merle's retirement years on Vancouver Island, she enjoyed golfing at Arrowsmith and Eaglecrest. When it was no longer possible for her to golf, she mastered bridge, enjoying untold hours with friends and family.
Merle was born on a farm in Willingdon, Alberta, and was the youngest of five. As a young woman, she moved to Edmonton, Alberta where she began a career as a florist. Her keen business sense and artistic flair led to her open Flowers by Merle, a business that she ran for more than 50 years. While her business brought her much success, her real passion was for her family whom she loved dearly. Merle was fiercely independent but she always opened her heart and home to bring people together. Her vibrant spirit, generosity, and kindness will be missed by all those who knew her.
By request, there will be no formal celebration of life.
