Meryl Leigh Storey (nee Saul)

In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sorrow that we mourn the passing of our beloved wife, mother, Nana, aunt and friend, Meryl. Meryl was born in Kenora, Ontario on September 9, 1944, the second of four children.
She married CAF pilot Tom Storey on November 14, 1964 and they moved to Germany shortly thereafter to begin their married lives together.
Meryl was a devoted wife of 58 years. She loved Germany and all things German and had very much wanted to return for a visit which unfortunately did not happen before her passing.
The family moved back to Canada in 1968 with stops in Gimli, MB, Cold Lake, AB, St. Hubert, QC, and finally Trenton, ON. Meryl made many friends while being in a military family and cherished those relationships.
Meryl and Tom had four children. Sadly, Meryl was predeceased by their beloved son Tommy. She was a devoted Mom to April (Will), Annie, and Keith (Sheryl). Meryl was predeceased by her brother Tom and her sister Cynthia but has enjoyed a lifelong relationship with her sister Valerie (Trevor).
She loved to visit Valerie and her family in Kenora especially for the Labour Day Charity Garage Sale which was very important to both sisters.
Meryl saved her best work for her grandchildren. Nana loved her grandkids more than anything else and spent every available minute with them playing games, cooking them treats, listening enthusiastically to their stories, and loving them unconditionally.
She will be sorely missed by Matthew (Rachel), Jeremy, Madison (Regan), Riley, and is now with Alex who sadly passed in 2021 and Stewart who left us in 1995. Meryl also became a great grandmother to Isabella and looked forward to their every visit together.
Meryl also enjoyed special relationships with her son and daughter in-laws. All three cherished Mom as if she was their own. That is how she made them feel and Will, Sheryl, and Evan will miss her in their lives.
Meryl had many interests. She was an avid curler and often skipped winning teams. She played the piano and organ "by ear" and composed her own music. She loved to go camping with the family and very much enjoyed the outdoors. Getting a tan was priority number one when winter was over and she was often teased that she could get one in a rainstorm.
She was very active with the Canadian Legion, volunteering with the Salvation Army, singing and playing piano with the Sweet Adeline Chorus, and was a devoted member of the Eastern Star.
Meryl was unfailingly kind, generous, eternally optimistic, and called everyone "darling" which was both heartfelt and well received.
Although cooking was not her favourite activity, her Tiger Butter, Nuts & Bolts (heavy garlic), and her Confetti Squares were always a part of family celebrations. It will be the small things that are missed the most and Meryl's love of Christmas will be one of them.
She was an animal lover who enjoyed nothing more than a good cuddle with her fur babies. A discrete treat under the table when she thought no one was looking was a normal event. Sorry Mom, we always saw you do it!
Meryl loved colourful and sparkly things. She never wore black and always made people smile with her outfits and jewelry. They were great accessories to the ever-present smile
In 1999, Tom and Meryl moved from Ladner, BC, their home of 15 years, and relocated to Qualicum Beach where they made many friends while enjoying the retired life.
Sadly, Meryl had a number of health issues which culminated in her being hospitalized where she courageously fought to the end. Our collective hearts were broken when she passed quietly on February 8, 2023.
She would often say "my angels must be watching over me" when good things happened. We now have our very own special angel watching over us. She would want all of us to let sad thoughts quickly turn into warm memories.
A Celebration Of Life will be held in Qualicum Beach at the Qualicum Beach Inn on March 25, 2023, from 1-4pm, with a second coming together in Kenora on June 24, 2023.
