Michael Anthony Wood

April 4th, 1935 - August 1st, 2015

“A pure light has flickered and gone out.

To know him was to love him and that was

his effect on everyone.”

Michael died peacefully surrounded by family early Saturday morning, August 1st during the Blue Moon. He lived a full and remarkable life.

Born in Egypt, and internationally raised, Michael was at home wherever he lived, making lifelong friends who loved and respected him. Trained in the navy as a young man, he never lost his passion for the sea and new horizons. A lover of God, he opened his heart and home to countless people, most notably at the Levant Study Centre in Cyprus with Stephanie, his wife of 35 years. Michael was a longtime educator who never lost his passion for ideas and who embraced all life had to offer. He is survived by his wife, six children, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

We are grateful for the respite and compassionate care given to Michael and his family at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

A ‘Celebration of Life’ for Michael will be held at a future date. Please contact Deborah Wood Whitley at djww57@shaw.ca for more information.
