Mar 9, 1923 - Dec 18, 2017
On December,18, 2017 Mireille Ellen Lewis slipped away quietly & peacefully ... as she had lived, into the presence of her Lord with family at her side.

Mireille was born March 9,1923 to parents Albert Edward Nix & Florence Phoebe (nee Sheldon) in Alix, Alberta.

Her great grandfather Josheph Todd was the very first homesteader of Alix and her father owned a bakery in the town until he enlisted upon the outbreak of the first world war.

Mireille had 3 brothers - Horace, Robert & Leonard plus her sister Genevieve, all of whom have passed.

At an early age Mireille's family loaded up a Model T Ford and moved to Victoria where she attended Tolmie school.

She was a stenographer and a gifted artist who grew up in a loving family. They pulled together forging a strong work ethic...to survive the hungry 30's.

Mireille met her husband, Able Seaman Fred George Lewis while he was stationed out of Esquimalt aboard the naval frigate HMCS Waskesiu.

They met by chance at a local swimming pool and as they say...the rest is history.

Fred & Mireille were married on October 12,1944 in Victoria, and soon moved to Fred's hometown of Prince Rupert to raise a family & start a business.

Mireille financed the purchase of Anion Island across the harbour for $5000xx , with the savings from her teenage job at a Victoria publishing agency.

Mireille was a courageous, caring & compassionate woman who lived her faith.

Together with Fred they raised 5 boys with some harrowing tales including running an old lifeboat to & from the island in winter storms on her own, and 2 baby buggies roped to the cleats to keep "all aboard".

The family eventually moved into Prince Rupert where they lived until the untimely death of her husband in 1970.

Not to be discouraged she took driving lessons, and, with a full brood of boys moved to Parksville.

She was a committed & patient mother, ever-encouraging her children in spite of the trouble which 5 boys can create... Somehow she retained her sanity, grace & selfless kindness into her final days.

Mireille is survived by her boys Gary, Bob (Anne), Randy, Glenn (Nancy) & Craig ... plus a number of grandchildren, including great grandchildren. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly.

Mom's family would like to convey their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Trillium Lodge. Their exceptional level of kindness & care will not soon be forgotten.
