Miriam Frances FRASER

(nee Lynch-Staunton)

May 28, 1924 – Pincher Creek, AB

July 26, 2015 – Calgary, AB

It is with sadness that the family of Miriam Fraser announces her passing after a lengthy hospital stay, at the age of 91 years. Miriam was born and raised in Pincher Creek, AB where she spent much of her life before moving to Yellowknife, NWT; Rocky Mountain House, AB; Qualicum Beach, BC; and finally back to Alberta where she spent her last years as a resident of Luxstone Manor in Airdrie.

Mom was out-going and social with a great sense of humor which she continued to display until the end. In addition to raising her family, she held various administrative and accounting positions over the course of her working career. She was a past member of the IODE, The Royal Canadian Legion, and a proud veteran of World War II as a member of the Canadian Women’s Army Corps (CWAC). She enjoyed playing bridge, attending opera and theatre productions, playing golf and curling, and in retirement traveling and volunteer work.

Miriam is survived by her sons Ian (Debby) and David (Debra); grandchildren Colin (Caitlin), Jennifer and Andrew; great-granddaughter Sophie; her sister Peggy and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Corbett and Betty Lynch-Staunton; husband Doug; son Gordon and her brother George.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many people who helped us with Mom’s care over the last four years. This includes the staff of Luxstone Manor, the employees of Alberta Home Care in Airdrie, the caring staff members of Unit 54 at Peter Lougheed Centre, and especially the compassionate and dedicated people at Dulcina Hospice who helped Mom and our family so much through her final days. In accordance with Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

In memory of Miriam, we encourage you to advocate for hospice care. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Dulcina Hospice, 110 Evanspark Manor NW, Calgary, AB T3P 0N3.
