Muriel Eileen McDonald (nee Craig)

November 12, 1917 – October 14, 2014

A long life ended when Muriel McDonald passed away at Trillium Lodge, Parksville, BC. Formerly of Campbell River, BC, she moved with her husband John in 1994 to Qualicum Beach, BC.

Muriel was born in Revelstoke, BC to a railroading family. Six months later, the family moved to Vancouver where Mom did most of her schooling. The family spent many summers at Brentwood Bay and Mom often talked about swimming the channel with her brother Alec.

In 1939, Muriel married John Alexander McDonald “Johnnie” and soon moved to Ocean Falls, BC to join John’s brother Don. Here they worked fulltime at the paper mill, Crown Zellerbach. Mom always said these were the “best years” of their life, working and playing in the surrounding wilderness. Her two children, Gail (1942) and Carol (1945) were born here.

Once again, in 1951 her new family were on the move. This time, it was to Campbell River, where they lived and played for 43 years. Many Ocean Falls people were moving south out of isolation, so ready-made families lived nearby and Mom was never short of friends.

Predeceased by her brother Alec (1980), husband John in 2002, father David C. Craig (1981). She leaves behind two daughters, Gail (Cliff) Batch of White Rock, Carol (Jim) McCallum of Qualicum Beach; Four grandchildren, Murray of Vancouver, Lori of Toronto, Erin of Port Coquitlam, and David of Vancouver.

Mom will be sadly missed by her dearest friends Grace and Bill Luck in Courtenay, BC along with many lifetime friends in Campbell River, BC. She will always be remembered for her cheerful, pleasant disposition, given to laughter with ease, a true Scottish lassie.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 2:00pm at Qualicum Community Baptist Church, 600 Beach Rd, Qualicum Beach.
