It is with great sadness to report the passing of Jack Coles on Sept 9, 2022 at The Gardens in Qualicum Beach BC. Jack was predeceased by his wife Helen and his youngest son Bill and survived by his eldest son John.
N. John Coles was always known as Jack Coles. He was born on Nov 16, 1920 in Calgary, AB. Jack joined the RCAF in 1940 and served as wireless air gunner throughout World War II making many sorties over Hamburg, Berlin, Essen and the Ruhr Valley first in Sterlings and later in Lancasters with Bomber Command. Jack was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross presented to him in Ottawa by the Governor General. Jack was discharged in 1945 as a Flight Lieutenant. He returned home to Smith Falls, ON and attended Rehab School and McGill University. He moved to Listowel, ON in 1948.
In 1949 he married Helen Keeso. In 1951 he rejoined the RCAF as an Air Traffic Controller. They had two boys, John (1952) and Bill (1953-deceased).
Jack retired from the RCAF in 1967 to accept an admin position with DRES at Suffield, AB He advanced to the position of Director of Administration and later held the same position at DREP at the Esquimalt Naval Yard near Victoria, BC.
Jack and Helen retired and moved to Qualicum Beach, BC in 1985. Jack will be buried along side Helen in the Fairview Cemetery in Listowel, ON.
