We lost Nancy on March 28, after her incredible 3.5 year battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
She was born in 1952 to Bert and Barb Neil in Regina, one of five kids.
Nancy spent her summers at the family cottage at Regina Beach, where she became a lifeguard and taught swimming to all the local kids. After achieving her teaching certificate she taught elementary school in Regina for 3 years.
British Columbia was calling, and she moved to Vancouver in 1979, where she worked in the car business until 1982. Nancy worked many years in radio sales for CFUN/QMFM, then moved to TV, and helped to open the New VI in Victoria.
She was loved by her colleagues and customers alike, and retired in 2006.
Nancy volunteered tirelessly for the BC Cancer Foundation, The Zajac Foundation, Cops for Cancer, Junior Achievement, Ladies of the Media Golf Tournament.
Along the way in 1981, she met Brian, the love of her life. She learned to golf, attempted curling, and helped raise an extended family.
She became firmly entrenched on the River in Maple Ridge.
In retirement, Nancy and Brian started spending winters in Green Valley AZ., and after a few years moved from Maple Ridge to Qualicum Beach to spend their summers there
Nancy belonged to Mission Golf Club, Golden Ears Winter Club, Eaglecrest Golf Club and the Country Club of Green Valley for many years.
She lost all three brothers' Gary, Doug, and Bob to cancer in the prime of their lives
Nancy leaves hubby Brian McLennan, Sister Shirley and Marc Mennel, 3 stepdaughters Tanya, Anita and Angela, 7 grandkids, 2 great grandkids and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and an incredible amount of friends to mourn
Nancy was always the organizer, whether it was the neighbourhood block party, the ladies golf club, a ladies lunch, a euchre competition, she was on deck.
Nancy loved dogs and had a particular affinity for Golden Retrievers. She was Mom to Nugget, Terra and Putter.
Her love of life and people was contagious and inspirational for many
In keeping with Nancy's wishes, there will be no formal celebration, but there will be Parties.
If you wish to honour this remarkable lady, donations to the BC Cancer Foundation or the BCSPCA would be greatly appreciated
