TENG, Norman Lloyd

February 17, 2015

Born November 21, 1947 in Kelowna, BC. Norman passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family in Victoria, BC.

Norm grew up in Victoria, BC with his Mom, Dad and 3 younger siblings. He met and later married Mary Francine (nee Rey) in 1970. He made a home with her in Victoria, where they raised a daughter and son together. He worked hard at many vocations. Norm started out tree planting for BC Forest Products at Caycuse before transferring to the BCFP sawmill on Gorge Rd., where he worked on the booms and later became an industrial electrician in the mill. When the mill closed in 1989, Norm started an electrical contracting company, which he ran successfully for many years. Following the sale of the electrical contracting company, he worked for a time at CFB Esquimalt as an industrial electrician and at the RJH on the electrical maintenance crew. Following that period, he became a general contractor and built houses in Victoria, Parksville, and Qualicum. Norm and Francine both retired and moved to Parksville. Norm was again working hard renovating their Parksville home when he became ill.

He will be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He helped his children in their youth with their activities such as sports, and in their adulthood with purchasing properties, lending his practical and knowledgeable support. He was always present for his grandsons, particularly taking on spending an afternoon a week with one for some years. He made sure his Mom’s trees were pruned and picked, and companioned his wife through their life together. Norm loved getting out in the wilderness for camping, hunting, and fishing trips with family and friends. He was an avid reader and collector of videos and old pinball machines, spent time growing his own food and making his own wine, and was always interested in and working on new projects. He enjoyed coffee out or an evening at the pub with friends. He and Francine enjoyed their time together at their RV lot at Otter Pt., and looked forward to their winter vacations in Palm Springs.

Norman is survived by and so sadly missed by his wife Francine, daughter Michelle, son Jacob, grandsons Joshua and Marcel, mom Faith, siblings Darrell (Anita), Janice (Barry) Taylor, Victor (Eileen), sister in law Megan (Rick) Quitley, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other family, friends, and neighbours in Victoria, Otter Pt., and Parksville. It has been said that his dad Maurice, who passed away before him, and Norman are together now. He is also predeceased by his grandparents Victor and Viola Sallis, and John and Doris Teng.

Special thanks and appreciation go out to so many people who helped Francine and Norman in the difficult last months and day of Norm’s life, including: Dr. Meadows at the Cancer Clinic in Victoria; Binder, RN and RJH; Dr. Dewer at RJH; Dr. Daly at RJH; Jonah, Resident at RJH; Kyle, RN at the ER, VGH; Jodie, RN at ICU, VGH; Ann, RN at VGH; Dr. Shaw at VGH; and Linda at the Accent Inn in Victoria.
