Olaf Amon (Nick) Reynolds

(January 27, 1925 – December 1, 2014)

Olaf Reynolds peacefully passed away at 89 years of age at Stanford Place in Parksville. He is predeceased by his parents Ray and Ellen Reynolds, brothers George, Warren, Dennis, Radwin and sisters Beryl, Bessie, Blanche and Althea. His first wife of 55 years Edith passed in 2006 and second wife Jessie in 2014. He is survived by daughter Barbara (Allan) Descoteau, Parksville and son Richard (Lori), Port Alberni, granddaughters Natalie (Harry) Perera, Jennifer Catto, Mallori (Schyler) Elliot, Jillian (Cody) Cayer and Kaitlyn (Dustin) Reynolds, great-granddaughters Madeline, Zoe and Bay and great-grandson Parks.

Olaf was born the youngest of 9 children on a small, rural homestead near Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. He moved with his parents to Coombs after the sale of the farm in 1945. Here he met Edith Allen and they were married in 1951. They relocated to Port Alberni when he started working at the Plywood Division (was nicknamed “Slim”) where he worked just short of 40 years. He built their first 2 homes in Port Alberni in his spare time, was an avid gardener and most summers took the family on a road trip. In 1980 Nick and Edith moved to Parksville and he retired in 1987.

Nick was actively involved as treasurer in every church they attended. He could always be counted upon to lend a hand to anyone that asked for his assistance or whenever he saw a need. He was caring, compassionate, giving and loved his family – his life was a real reflection of God’s love. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends but we are comforted knowing he is with his Saviour.

A special thank you to the staff at Stanford Place (Bayview) for the wonderful care they provided.

A memorial service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 795 Island Highway West, Parksville on Wednesday, December 10 at 11 a.m.

Private interment to follow.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
