Peter Mehlmann (1938 - 2021) passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on Vancouver Island. Retired in 2003, after 35 years of service at the University of Regina Library, he and Gloria, beloved wife of 62 years, moved to be closer to their family in North Vancouver. He spent five happy years in his home in Nanoose Bay.
Loving father of Gabrielle Ollinger (Dan), Vancouver Island, and Jacqueline Mehlmann-Wicks, England. Proud grandfather of Danielle (Mauricio), Vancouver BC, Christopher (Courtney), Vancouver Island, and Hartley, England. Great-grandfather of Aceyn, James, and Amea. Loving brother of Barbara and nephew, Axel Mehlmann, of Welkenbach, Germany.
Great admirer of in-laws and friends, Bruce Wicks (Hertfordshire) and Mark Ridley, (Cambridgeshire); and many nieces and nephews, notably Marlon Bessel family and sisters, Tanya, Melanie and Lana, along with friends and relatives in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, Washington State, Europe, and British Columbia.
Peter will be fondly remembered as a loving father, husband and family man, avid reader of the literary classics and bibliographer, eclectic music lover (Handel and The Beatles), crafter of extraordinary words, architect of magnificent meals, pilot of small aircraft, and quick-witted philosopher.
The family of Peter Mehlmann gives sincere thanks to the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital doctors, nurses and staff with special thanks to the Palliative Care Unit and its staff members who tended Peter with such kind, supportive, and professional care. The family extends its thanks to Yates Funeral Services officials for their sensitive leadership and advice at a difficult time.
