Peter Norman SHAW

September 25, 2007

SHAW, Peter, Norman

Peter Shaw 1950-2007. On the morning of September 25, Peter Norman Shaw passed away peacefully in his sleep in the Palliative Care Unit of Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.  Despite cancer, Peter died with dignity and grace, as he had wished.

Peter was predeceased by his parents Lillian and Jack Shaw and is survived by siblings Susanne, Ruth Tripodi (Bob), John (Cedalia) and Andrew; nephews John Defalque, Chris Defalque and David Shaw; and nieces Rachel and Sara Shaw.  He is also survived by Aunt Annette Romanek and Uncle Peter Plante, numerous cousins and legends of wonderful and supportive friends. All will deeply miss his lively wit and caring spirit.

Peter was born February 26, 1950 in Lockport, NY, USA, but other than a half-dozen years in Seattle, he lived most of his life in Canada, settling in Parksville for the last seventeen years.  He loved his town and fought hard for the preservation of its shoreline and wildlife.  Peter was an avid gardener, enhancing every place in which he lived.  Being invited to one of his garden candlelight dinners was a real treat!  Peter was also an ardent recycler, making sure nothing went to waste.  He loved playing the piano and composing music.  Classical music, writing and research were his hobbies, but trains were his passion and he knew just about everything about every train ever built.  When he was a child, he stood on his grandparents’ couch for hours, just watching the long trains pass by.  He had followed many career paths, from logging and mining to restaurant management and shipping agent and had travelled extensively.

Prayers will be held Thursday, October 4th from 6-7 PM at St. Peter’s Church, 301 Machleary Street in Nanaimo.  The funeral service will take place Friday, October 5th at 12:30 PM at St. Peter’s, with a reception to follow.

A Celebration of Peter’s Life is being hosted at the home of Janet and Harold MacDougall - #18- 493 Pioneer Crescent (Pioneer Garden Estates) in Parksville any time after 2 PM Saturday, October 6th.

May God bless Peter and make him

whole and healthy in the Hereafter
