Phillip Lane Whittaker

September 14, 1954 - January 14, 2014

It is with profound sadness that we have to announce Phill’s sudden passing on January 14, 2014. Phill is survived by his loving wife Patti, daughter Diana and son Robert; sisters Donna and Kathy Green; brother-in-law Greg Warham; niece Amber Whittaker; dear friends Rene, Sharon, Claire and Dan Fontaine and all his extended family and amazing friends.

Phill began his career as a flooring installer at the age of 15. As a skilled tradesman Phill was known for his expertise and dedication as well as his artistic flair. He had the ability to turn any job into a creative masterpiece.

While supporting his family for more than 30 years Phill built not one but two amazing homes on their property in Errington. Not only did he create a loving homestead for Patti, Diana and Robert, he made many friends and mates along the way. His home was a source of pride and all were made to feel welcome. Many friendships were cultivated at Phills place where his spirit will live on.

Everything Phill did he did with such passion. He was the kind of guy who said it like was and was respected for his straight up manner. He always loved a good challenge and didn’t back away when things got tough. He had a love for the outdoors. Some of his favorite ways to relax included camping, fishing, playing floor hockey and out hiking with the dogs and friends.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Phill’s floor hockey team mates for every effort in trying to save him and to emergency services for continuing that effort. To the many people in our community; we are blessed to have you as our friends. Thank you for your love, support and nourishment.

There will be a celebration of Phill’s life on Sunday, January 26 at 2:30 p.m. at the Errington War Memorial Hall. Please join us to share your stories and memories of Phill.

To honour Phill’s love of the outdoors in lieu of flowers donations will be gratefully accepted at the door for the Mid Island Castaways Fly Fishing Club and the Parksville Boy Scouts.
