April 1, 1927 – Nov. 23, 2010

It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Ralph Hayward at his home on November 23rd, 2010 at the age of 83. Ralph was the loving husband of 58 years of Lydia, beloved father of Jane Susan Hayward and Roger Bruce Hayward (Stephanie), grandfather of Kirsten Grace Hayward and Justine Alexandra Hayward and brother of Ian Aubrey Hayward (Rosemary).

Born in Gloucestershire, England, to Victor Aubrey and Grace Violet Hayward of Naunton, Ralph married his grammar school sweetheart, Lydia Mary Bartlett, in 1952 and sailed for Montreal, Quebec soon after. There, their children, Jane and Roger, were born. Ralph and his family moved to Calgary, Alberta, in 1969, and finally Ralph and Lydia retired to Qualicum Beach, British Columbia in 1995. A proud professional engineer in both Britain and Canada, Ralph moved up the ranks first in Canadair in Montreal, and then at Flextrac Nodwell and Kapps Transport in Calgary. He finally joined Exchanger Industries in 1977 as President. Ralph loved music – particularly the piano, as well as soccer and golf. However, nothing surpassed his love for his family and home, which began with his great devotion to his mother. He will be fondly remembered for his integrity, work ethic and being the life of the party with his incredible joke-telling prowess. His family wishes to thank the myriad of friends and neighbours who have honoured Ralph’s memory, and have shown such respect and caring to his family in these tender days.

A private memorial service was held on Tuesday, November 30th, to celebrate Ralph and his remarkable life.
