René Carriere

In loving memory ~

It is with great sadness that the family of René Carriere announce his passing on December 1, 2024.

René was born on a farm just outside of Kapuskasing, Ontario and grew up in Thunder Bay. He spent his career in healthcare in Sault Ste. Marie, where he met and married his late wife Marylyn, and raised their son (Steven) Jeromy. Once retired, they moved to London, Ontario in 2004. Marylyn passed away following a brief illness in 2006.

In 2009, René married Wendy - a fellow parishioner at their Anglican church in London. They came to Vancouver Island for their honeymoon (Wendy was born and raised in Victoria). René fell in love with the island, and in 2010 they moved to Parksville. He loved the ocean, rivers and mountains and René and Wendy spent many happy times exploring Vancouver Island.

René is survived by his wife Wendy, son Jeromy and his granddaughters Julia Renée and Sofie Marylyn, by his sister Lilliane King (Doug) and brother Claude, and by many nieces and nephews in Thunder Bay. He was predeceased by his sister Pauline and brother Norman. He was the beloved uncle to Wendy's niece Karen Phipps (John) and their children Connor, Sean and Sarah, and to Wendy's nephew David Lamb and his son Chase.

René fought a long and courageous battle with heart disease over many years. We are very grateful for the care he received during these last 14 years from Dr. Lauren Dewart and Holly at Pulse Complete Cardiac Care in Victoria.

A celebration of life will take place at St. Mark's Anglican Church in Qualicum Beach at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 4, 2025, with a reception to follow.

René will be remembered as a kind, compassionate man who always took the time to talk to people. He touched many lives and was committed to helping others.

He will be forever missed by his loving wife, Wendy. He was the love of her life.
