In Loving Memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, friend, and a true legend both on the hockey rink/golf course and in the realm of generosity. Ric, a man whose life was a testament to dedication, sportsmanship, and boundless kindness, has left behind a legacy that will forever inspire us all.
Born on January 19, 1953, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Ric Kennedy showed an early passion for hockey that would come to define his life. He was not merely a player; he was a maestro on the rink. His finesse, skill, and unwavering commitment made him a true icon in the world of hockey. His numerous trophies and accolades are a testament to the countless hours he spent perfecting his craft. But Ric's talents weren't confined to the rink alone; he was a coach, golf instructor, teacher, and mentor. Off the ice, he discovered a deep passion for golf course management and transitioned from the world of slapshots to fairway drives and the Canadian Professional Golf Association (CPGA), where he dedicated over 30 years designing, developing and growing golf courses in western Canada.
Ric was not just a sportsman; he was a devoted family man. His love for his wife (Ruth Kennedy of 50 years), his children; Erin Allen (husband Neithan, Landon and Blake), Jody Newton (husband Robert Newton, Robbie, Kathleen and Lauren) and Lindsay Kennedy, and his family was immeasurable.
He was a pillar of strength, an endless wealth of wisdom, and a constant source of love and support. His guidance and the values he instilled in us will continue to guide our lives.
As we mourn the loss of a remarkable father, we also celebrate the incredible legacy he leaves behind. Ric leaves behind a loving family, a grateful community in Canada and the United States, and a world that is undoubtedly better because he was a part of it.
Though he may have left the rink of life and the links behind, his legacy as a sportsman and a generous soul will endure in our hearts and minds. We find solace in the knowledge that his memory will forever be a guiding light for us all.
Ric is survived by his wife and three adult children. While no funeral service is currently scheduled, a celebration of life ceremony will be announced at a future date.
Rest in peace, dear Richard "Ric" Kennedy. You will forever be cherished and deeply missed. Thank you for gracing our lives with your love, wisdom, and boundless spirit.
With love and remembrance,
The Kennedy/Allen/Newton Families
