1939-2021 ~ Our treasured husband and father passed away at Arrowsmith Lodge on Thursday, April 29th. He is survived by his wife Lynda, son Jeffrey (Lynne), daughter Heather (Paul) and grandsons Alex and Zak.
Dick graduated from UBC in Engineering Physics and completed a masters degree at the University of Saskatchewan. He had a long career in Ontario including 32 years at Dofasco where he spent many years as General Manager of Engineering.
Retiring to Parksville B.C. in 2005, he continued his passion for hard work and collaborative teamwork through the WMPG, making new friendships along the way.
Dick and Lynda shared a lifelong love for the outdoors. Cherished memories among many are of summers spent camping in Killbear Provincial Park, sailing the MacGregor in Desolation Sound and traveling to Italy to walk the Cinque Terre.
Dick was a kind, intelligent man with a keen sense of humor. He was playful and delighted in getting in a gentle ribbing with a kindred mind. Dick focused more on the needs of others than of himself, and was someone who gave thoughtful, non-judgmental and knowledgeable advice when consulted. He was devoted to his family and a faithful friend.
His last seven months were spent at Arrowsmith Lodge where he received warm, supportive care. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for that care.
A memorial service will be held in the months to come. To send condolences or share a memory, please visit Sands Funeral Chapel (arbormemorial.ca/en/sands-nanaimo/obituaries/richard-a-gordon/65658)
