May 30, 1916 – January 14, 2011

Robert Emmett Urquhart passed away peacefully on Friday, January 14, 2011 at the age of 94 years. He was predeceased by his wife Dolly, daughter Peggy and special friend Eve Knight. Emmett will always be fondly remembered by his son Emmett (Karen) and their children Kimberly, Max, Sean and Natalie as well as son Peter (Wendy) and their children Peter John, Cassidy, Chelsea, Barney and great-granddaughter Ashley. He will also be missed by the great number of friends whom he has made over the years in the Qualicum – Parksville area. On June 25, 1940 Emmett enlisted in the Irish Fusiliers Vancouver Regiment, and returned to civilian life on June 23, 1946. While overseas he met Dolly, the love of his life and they were married on April 22, 1946 in Moncton, New Brunswick. Emmett worked for the Federal Government until his retirement in December 1976. He and Dolly moved to Vancouver Island in 1980 where they enjoyed gardening and other outdoor activities. Dolly passed away on January 26, 1994. Emmett was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and thoroughly enjoyed their camaraderie. Many thanks go out to his caregivers and numerous friends at Hawthorne Place and Stanford Place. Special thanks to Mike and Isabel Murphy, Tom and Vida Cunniffe and of course Father Jozef Kobos and his fellow parishioners at Church of the Ascension and a big hug to Diana and Joe Meyer.

If friends so desire memorial tributes can be made directly to a charity of their choice.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Church of the Ascension, 887 Wembly Road, Parksville, BC, on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 10:00 am, reception and fellowship to follow in the Church Hall, and burial at Qualicum Beach Cemetery after fellowship.
