STUART, Rolf
December 9, 1924 ~ July 31, 2009
It is with mixture of deep sadness and relief that we announce the passing of Rolf Stuart at the age of 84, following a long battle with vascular dementia.
Rolf was the only child of Julian and Ann Stuart. He was born in Argentina, moving firstly to Chicago, Illinois and then to Cobble Hill, B.C. at the age of 7 where he attended country school with his future wife Marianne Samuelson.
He enlisted in the Canadian Army at the age of 16 and served during WWII with the B.C. Dragoons in North Africa and Europe. On discharge from the army he attended barber’s college in Victoria.
Rolf and Marianne married in 1947. They moved to Victoria where Rolf worked in various barber shops before opening Stuart’s Barber Shop in Langford, B.C. Later Rolf and his son Mark co-owned and operated the business.
Rolf was predeceased by his loving wife Marianne in 1994, his infant granddaughter Elaine in 1972 and his loving in-laws Anne and Sidney Samuelson.
He will be deeply missed by his son Mark (Charley) Stuart, Qualicum Beach, B.C. and his daughter Loretta (Jim) Boyd, Maple Ridge, B.C. He was dearly loved by his grandson Karl (Angela) Bridge and his granddaughter Andi Moyer.
Rolf was a loving husband, father and grandfather (Pumpa). His humour and humourous antics will live on in our memories. Rolf was an avid reader, he enjoyed daily early morning walks and had a passion for kayaking.
He accepted the loss of his independence without complaint despite a move to supportive living and then to facility care.
The family extends their thanks to the staff at The Gardens, Qualicum Beach, B.C. for their kindness and Rolf’s wonderful care.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate Rolf’s Life will be held at the Royal Oak Cemetery Garden Chapel on
Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.
