August 18, 2020
Our dear Roy passed away unexpectedly in hospital at the age of 74 on August 18, 2020 from complications relating to debilitating open heart surgery in February. Over those months, while working on regaining his strength and mobility, Roy maintained a positive, cheery spirit and great determination.
Roy will be remembered warmly as being creative, fun- loving, compassionate, kind and immensely generous. He was a faithful friend. Over the years, Roy was devoted to his five beautiful dogs.
Mourning the loss of this wonderful man are Cathie, his beloved wife of 46 years, his sister Cherie (Ken), his dearly loved son Jordy (Kate) and granddaughter Madeleine. Roy will be deeply missed also by Cathie's sister Jan and brother Marty (Una), two uncles, many cousins, friends and neighbours, all of whom meant so much to him.
Roy was extremely proud of his 23 year career as a Coquitlam Firefighter. Roy and Cathie enjoyed many years of travel, and made their homes in North Delta and Tsawwassen, before retiring to Parksville in 2007. Here Roy volunteered for a number of years with the RCMP's Speedwatch program, serving for a time as Coordinator. In recent years, Roy joined the Seaside Cruizers Car Club, indulging his love of classic cars. His white '66 El Camino was his pride and joy, and he loved cruising the waterfront on a sunny day, revelling in that throaty rumble.
Roy will always be loved, missed, and so fondly remembered.
