Roy Francis Finck

August 12, 2002

FINCK, Roy Francis passed away peacefully on August 12, 2002 surrounded by his loving family, and under the excellent care provided by the staff at 3 South in Victoria’s Royal Jubilee Hospital.

Born on October 17, 1928 in the lighthouse on East Ironbound Island, Nova Scotia, Roy was the second youngest of six children born into a fisherman’s family by a mother who is still alive at 108 years. As a young man, he moved to British Columbia and began a long career as a papermaker in Ocean Falls, which ended upon his retirement from Alberni Pulp and Paper in 1984. Since then, he resided in Qualicum Beach.

Roy is survived by Margaret, his loving wife of 48 years, children Joanne (David), Kelly (Jennifer) and Darlene (Raymond), and grandchildren Erika, Sydney, Cameron and Amy. He is also survived by his mother Violet, brothers Charlie (Beatrice) and Joshua (Helen), and sisters Shirley and Blanche (Jim), and sisters-in-law Irene (Aldo) and Florence (Gary) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his father Edward, sister Marjorie and brother-in-law Dick(Shirley).

During his 73 years of life, Roy maintained a strong connection to the sea and never lived further than a nautical mile from its shore. He had a passion for living and enjoyed golf, fishing, carving and RVing, but more than anything, he loved spending time with his family and many dear friends.

Roy Finck was a strong, kind and honest person; he was dearly loved and will be sadly missed.

A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen’s United Church on 150 Village Way in Qualicum Beach, BC at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 20, 2002.

Donations in Roy’s memory may be made to the British Columbia Lung Association, 2675 Oak Street, Vancouver, BC, V6H 2K2.
