Ruth MacKenzie

May 11, 1933 – November 20th, 2015

Ruth MacKenzie was born in Stettler, Alberta in 1933. She attended Stettler School grades 1- 12 and then obtained her RN at the University Hospital in Edmonton. She later obtained her degree in Nursing at McGill University in Montreal. She worked in pediatrics as a charge nurse in both Edmonton and Vancouver. She spent 1.5 years nursing in Innisfail, Alberta followed by six months travelling in Europe.

She moved to Vancouver in 1961 and worked at VGH and then at the (then new) BC Children’s Hospital. Ruth retired from nursing in 1988 while living in her apartment in West Vancouver. In the year 2002 she moved to Craig Bay in Parksville on Vancouver Island. Illness began in 2012 and the cancer diagnosis was determined in 2014. Her attitudes during the last couple of years have been stoic and positive. Her death occurred on November 20th, 2015.

Ruth was the youngest member of a large family with four boys and four girls. Her parents were a positive and happy couple who enjoyed their family. Her parents retired to Kelowna and later to Vancouver. Ruth also took pride and interest in the lives of her nieces and nephews, and maintained a healthy contact with her many friends. Donations in her name can be made to the organization of your choice.
