Sheila Mary Slaney

August 13, 1930 – April 27, 2013

With great sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom, Sheila Slaney, at her home on April 27th.

Sheila, the daughter of Harry and Celia Burgoyne, was born in Vancouver and grew up in Hilliers along with her brothers. She graduated in 1947 from Qualicum Beach High School and completed her senior matriculation at UBC. Sheila received her RN from Vancouver General Hospital in 1950 and nursed in Merced, California, and Port Alberni. Sheila and Terry were married in 1952 and moved into their home on Hirst Ave. Parksville where Sheila resided for the past 62 years.

Sheila was an active member of the community. Over the years, Sheila was involved as a volunteer with therapeutic riding, S.O.S., Mt. Arrowsmith Hikers, her swim club and badminton. Sheila had a vibrant daycare which was a home away from home for a multitude of children for over 25 years. Later in life, Sheila travelled the world and enjoyed riding her bike, gardening, baking for many and visiting family and friends.

Sheila lived a full and happy life and will be greatly missed by her children Marnie, Michael and Brenda, Douglas, Wendy, Karen, Diane and Paul, and Mary Lou and Michael. Sheila was a loving grandma to Nelson, Tanya, and Garth, Tyler and Mitchell and Shauna and Heather. She is survived by her brother Bill. Sheila is predeceased by her husband Terry and her youngest brother Gordon.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to our Uncle Bill and Aunty Kay, Aunty Margaret, Cousin Bob, good friend Sue and everyone else who contributed to Mom’s

quality of life. We also extend our thanks to the Pharmasave Staff especially Tammie and Stacey, Dr. Sulz, Dr. Waite, Dr. Most and Jane and Cindy from Radiology.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sheila’s memory may be sent to North Island Wildlife Recovery Association or Arrowsmith Search and Rescue.

A gathering for family and friends

will be held later this summer.

Happy riding, Mom!
