With much sorrow we announce the passing of our mother, Solange Marie Armande Turcotte on Mother’s Day, May 8th, 2011.

Mom was born August 7th, 1922 in St. Charles, Manitoba, predeceased in death by her parents, Virginie Ranger and Leonide Turcotte and her 14 siblings. She leaves behind to grieve her husband George MacKay Qualicum and her children: Ken MacKay (Pam) London, ON: Karen Carignan (Serge) Parksville and Janis Brammall (Bill) Comox; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Mom and Dad were married in Toronto in 1942 while both serving with RCAF. Her military career ended when they started their family. Their military travels took them from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island and twice to Europe. Upon Dad’s retirement from the Air Force, they traveled to Africa where they lived for 5 adventurous, memorable years. Her happiest years! Their return to Canada brought them back to Comox where they owned and operated a ladies’ clothing store called the “All Seasons Boutique” on Comox Avenue. They spent numerous winters living in Palm Springs where they developed many special friendships.

Mom was an expert bridge player and loved working the daily word cryptic puzzles. She also dabbled in painting and needlework before arthritis robbed her of the ability to use her hands. Nevertheless, over the years, she shared her talent with her friends and children giving us heirlooms to treasure forever. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always enjoyed receiving pictures and cards from the ones who live at a distance.

“We love you, Mom and we will miss you forever: Rest in peace, sweet peace”.

No service at Mom’s request. Her family will celebrate her life on Saturday, May 14th.
