May 11, 1936 - March 25, 2025
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Marion
Chorney , who left us peacefully on March 25, 2025, at the age of 88. He was born on May 11, 1936 and lived a life full of love, hard work, and creativity.
Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sonya (née Fredriksen) Chorney, and his children, Micheal and Tara Chorney. He is survived by his daughter Deidre Hall, son Thomas K. Chorney and his wife Cherie, as well as his cherished grandchildren Ainsley (Ben), Christal (Stuart), Brandi, Rebecca Kalem, and Tiffany, and great-grandchildren Aaliyah, Mason, and Paityn.
In his early years, Tom worked as a logger and long-haul truck driver. He then found a fulfilling role in the Sooke District 62 School District as a maintenance worker. After retiring, Tom settled in Qualicum Beach, where he and Sonya enjoyed their golden years together. A man of remarkable skill and creativity, Tom found joy in crafting cedar planters and beautifully detailed birdhouses, which he sold at local markets. His love for his home and his work was evident in everything he did, and it brought him great happiness to live out his final days surrounded by the comforts of a life well-lived.
Tom's family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care he received from his caregivers at VIHA, Melisa and staff at Pinnacle Pharmacy, and Gord, his friendly delivery driver from Save-On Foods, who became a trusted part of his daily routine.Without you all he wouldn't have had his wish to live out his years in his home. His kind and gentle spirit touched many lives, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
The hardest part isn't saying goodbye; it's the thought that we will never see him again.
Tom's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
