Feb. 14, 1933, to Nov. 8, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Valerie Margaret Cue, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was predeceased 37 years ago by her husband, Alan Cue, the father of her children.

She leaves behind many who will forever cherish her spirit including four children, Sue Dean (Bob), Al (Linda), Chris (Lisa), and Brad (Diane Mackie); seven grandchildren, Stephanie and Nigel Dean, Jamie Lee, Jordan, Evan, Jake, and Riley Cue; two sisters, Ruth Storey and Joanne McIver; and many nieces, nephews, and friends—all of whom she loved dearly.

Val was from a long line of strong, independent women. She had a feisty spirit and was honest to a fault. Born in Calgary, Alberta, her family moved to Kerrisdale, British Columbia, and eventually to North Vancouver, which she called home for many years. Alan (West Vancouver High) and Val (North Vancouver High) raised their four children on the North Shore.

When Al became ill , Val went back to work at CIBC and later worked for Paine Hardware as a bookkeeper. She was an amazing mother who always worked hard to support her family.

After raising her family, Val took up residence in Parksville, Vancouver Island, where she enjoyed the island lifestyle during her retirement. She had great fun with her walking group, where there was always a birthday to celebrate.

Val was very active with the local Lupus Support Group and made many wonderful friends through her association there. The family wishes to thank Eileen and Ellen for their friendship and support during Mom’s final days. Thanks also to the emergency and palliative care staff, who could not have given Mom better care during her short stay at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

A celebration of life will be held for Val at the Quality Resort Bayside, 240 Dogwood Street, Parksville, BC, on Saturday, November 17, 2012, from 1 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lupus Society of BC, #329–720
