It is with great sadness that we announce that our husband and father, Vince Hernandez, passed away after a long battle with heart and kidney disease, on January 30th. He was 88 years old.

Vince was born in North Vancouver on June 19,1929. He spent most of his life on the B.C. coast, enjoying our natural surroundings. Vince was an avid boater, skier, golfer, and musician.

Vince had a career working for the British Columbia Ministry of Forests. He had the pleasure of being a ranger of the Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii), Creston, and Lund. After a number of years of moving around the province, Vince settled with his family in Powell River, where he finished his career as an as an Operational Supervisor.

Vince was very involved with the community in Powell River. He was a long-time member of the golf course, and was instrumental in helping develop the 'new' golf course in the 80s. Vince was a strong believer in civil rights and he volunteered for Civil Liberties for a number of years. In his early retirement he was a regular volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Vince is survived by Evelyn, his wife of 60 years. He is predeceased by his son, Stephen, but is survived by Stephen's daughters Keigan, Chelcie and Kayla, as well as their children; his daughter Marian, son-in- law Phil, and their sons, Daniel, Jordan and Braidan; son Alan, daughter-in-law, Silvana and their children, Paz, Cale, Zane, Minna and Kye; his son Brent, granddaughter Kristie, daughter-in-law Misayo and their sons, Ryoma, Taiga and Hyugo;and daughter Janice, son-in-law, Ward and their daughter, Meigan.

A celebration of life will be held in Powell River on March 3rd at Cranberry Hall at 2 pm.
