November 20, 1943 – November 14, 2022
Wayne Healey, 78, passed away peacefully at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria BC, on Monday, November 14 ,2022. His loving wife of 56 years, Lynn by his side.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents Clifford and Muriel, and his sister Arlean. He will be deeply missed by his wife Lynn Healey, their children Chris (Michelle) and Robbin (David), grandchildren Corbin, Joshua, Quinn, Adriana and Isabella, and his sisters Lorraine (Doug) and Lynda (Ed).
Wayne was born on November 20, 1943, in Hamilton Ontario. He was an adventurous child and loved spending summers with his family at their cottage on Lake Erie. He was an expert water skier. Wayne’s dream was to be a pilot and he took great pride in his military career with the Royal Canadian Armed Forces, flying planes such as the Buffalo, Argus and Aurora. Upon retirement as a Major he returned to the skies flying gliders with the Port Alberni Flying Club.
Wayne was best known for his quick-witted humour, hard-working nature and his generosity: always being the first person to volunteer to give a helping hand to a family member, friend or neighbour. He liked to keep busy, spending his days working on projects he acquired through is handyman business, out on the golf course, and travelling the world with Lynn by his side. Wayne enjoyed being an active member of the Parksville Community, volunteering for organisations such as COPS, Speed Watch, and SPCA; he helped build 6 homes with Habitat for Humanity.
Wayne enjoyed spending time socialising and belonged to a wine tasting group with his friends; sometimes he enjoyed it a bit too much as he ended up on the house roof after one event!
Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate Wayne’s life in their own way – raising a glass of their favourite drink would be quite appropriate.
A private celebration of Wayne’s life will be held for family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Red Cross.
