William (Bill) Whittaker Anderson

It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Anderson. Bill passed away peacefully and comfortably in the Palliative Care Unit at NRGH on Thursday, July 11 with his wife by his side. He is survived by his loving family- his wife Dianne Anderson; daughter Megan (Jeff) Russel, grandsons Alex & Andy Russel; daughter Rachel (Dave) Toews, granddaughter Freya Toews; daughter Kathy (Mike) Malchy, grandchildren Noah, Bailey & Hallie Malchy. He is survived by his sister Beebe Gueho and predeceased by sisters Lillian Hall and Shirley Sigvaldason. He is also survived by extended family members and many nieces and nephews.

Bill led a vibrant life filled with many careers. He worked at the Nanaimo Biological Station, spent time doing oceanography research in the Arctic, was a Teacher and Administrator in Richmond and Nanaimo School District 68 for many years, and owned ADT Security / Stop Management in Nanaimo.

Bill was a kind and gentle man who loved his family and friends, fishing, and the ocean. Bill always had a kind word to say about others and always loved a good joke.

A service will be held in celebration of Bill’s life at Knox United Church (345 Pym St., Parksville, B.C.) on Friday July 19, 2013 at 1 pm.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill’s memory to support either Merkel Cell Cancer Research or the Palliative Care Unit at NRGH.
