FULCHER, William Herbert

Passed away in his sleep February 18, 2005

Predeceased in 1985 by wife Lydia, Bill is survived by one daughter Doris Hill; one son Terry (Kim) Fulcher; 5 grandchildren: Rob (Lou) Hill, Mike (Suzanne) Hill, Barb (Doug) Farrington, Marcie Fulcher and Katie Fulcher; 5 great grandchildren: Dan, Crystal, Andrew, Michelle and Matthew; one brother Charley (Charlotte) Fulcher; 2 sisters: Olive Wiese, Lucy Gilchrist, all in Alberta; another sister Edith (Harry) Wilson in Richmond; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Bill was born in England in 1909 and immigrated to Canada in 1912. After attending school outside of Edmonton, Bill farmed a homestead then worked on the construction of the Alaska Highway. Bill would play his fiddle at dances in communities along the way. At one such dance he met his wife of 51 years. Bill, Lydia and their young daughter Doris, came to Vancouver Island in 1937, staying a short while at Qualicum Bay and Horne Lake

before moving to Temple Road in Parksville where they lived for 34 years, bearing son Terry.

During his working years, Bill was employed by many local logging contractors and while driving for the Shelley Brothers was one of the drivers that hauled the old Parksville Community Hall in from the Nanaimo Army Base. He also served as Parksville councilman.

After retirement, several winters were spent in Phoenix. The rest of the time was taken up with gardening, inventing, feeding his birds and playing countless games of crib with family and friends.

Bill had a quiet sense of humour which quickly endeared new acquaintances to him. He will especially be missed by the night staff at

Arrwosmith Lodge, who loved to spoil him with cookies.

The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Satish Desai for his perservance, caring for Dad, Dr. Morag Atherstone, the awesome

nurses in Medical Daycare (N.R.G.H. ), and the very loving staff of Arrowsmith Lodge.

No service at Bill’s request.

Donations in Bill’s memory may be sent to: Arrowsmith Rest Home Foundation Society, c/o 266 Moilliet Street, Parksville, B.C. V9P
