William Montgomery

William passed away peacefully in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Comox, BC on February 19th, 2011. Born in Dunoon, Scotland on April 16th, 1916. Age 94 years. He came to Canada as a baby and resided in Vancouver, BC until his enlistment in the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada in 1939-1945. Upon his return from overseas he resided in Vancouver, BC and Winnipeg, Manitoba, and met the love of his life while recovering in hospital. After many years of working for the Provincial Government in Manitoba as an accountant. Bill and his wife retired to Qualicum Bay on Vancouver Island in 1980. He was a member of the War Amps of Canada, Victoria Branch, a member of the T.B. Veterans Association Branch #44 and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #211 Bowser, BC, as well as the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Regimental Association, Regiment Number K52809. Predeceased by his wife Sheila in 2010; brother, James, and sister Jean. Survived by his daughters; Maureen Maskell (Bob) of St. Albert, Alberta, and Cheryl Loewen (John Wiebe) of Salt Spring Island; grandsons, Christopher (Donna), and great granddaughter, Sonia, Carey (Kiera), and great grandson, Kai William, all of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Chad (Heather) of Steinbach, Manitoba; sister, Margaret Marshall, and sister-in-law Mable McWhirter; numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Wildwood Community Church in Bowser at a later date. Cremated remains will be forwarded to Redvers, Saskatchewan. Inurnment beside his wife and in-laws. Flowers gratefully declined. In memory of Bill, donations may be made to the Champs Program of the War Amps of Canada or the T.B. Vets, Vancouver Branch, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Condolences may be offered to the family at telfordn@telus.net
