Ray passed away at the age of 65 on February 9th after a swift and terrible battle with cancer.

He will be missed dearly by his wife Cambrea, daughters Angela (Joshua), Lisa (Jesse), Erica (Ian) and his family as well as his many friends and co-workers.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents Kate and Jim Bethell and his brother Robert Bethell. He grew up in Cordova Bay and lived most of his life in Victoria, moving to Qualicum Beach in 2011 after he retired.

Ray enjoyed a diverse and fulfilling career path from his days as a photographer at the Royal British Columbia Museum to his many happy years as a pilot at CFB Esquimalt. He was also an avid and dedicated volunteer that contributed countless hours to youth and substance recovery organizations.

Ray had recently been enjoying new friendships in his local church community in Qualicum. Everyone that knew him will remember his tremendous passion for his work, family, food and of course motorcycles.

Our family would like to thank all the kind people that have showed their love and support through this difficult time, especially the angels in the palliative care ward in the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Ray had a huge heart and capacity for joy that spread so much warmth to those around him. His contagious smile and belly laugh will be so greatly missed.
