William Roy Baron

July 2, 1928 – October 31, 2018
It is with heavy hearts that the family of William (Bill) Baron announce his passing. Bill passed away in his sleep on October 31, 2018. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Lorraine, in April 2016. He missed her immensely every day. He is survived by his children Mark (Jackie), Gail (David), his grandchildren Paul (Holley) and Nicole (Kyle) and his great grandchildren, Isla, Adelin and Charlotte.

Bill was born July 2, 1928 in Vancouver, BC and attended King Edward High School. After graduation, he drove delivery truck for CN Transport and then moved on to a sales job at Clark Simpkins Motors, where he met Lorraine. They were married in 1952 and started their family shortly after, with the birth of their son, Mark, in 1953. After his birth, they moved from their first home at Broadway and Rupert to the Capilano Highlands in North Vancouver, and the birth of their daughter, Gail, followed in 1955.

Bill and Lorraine lived many happy years in the dream home they had built, forging neighbourhood friendships that would last a lifetime. In the late 1990s, while visiting close friends in Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island, they fell in love with the area and decided to build another home. Their 2nd dream home was located on the 9th fairway of the Fairwinds Golf Course and they lived out the majority of their retirement years here, golfing and enjoying all the scenic beauty the area had to offer.

Bill was a salesman at heart and spent his entire life in the sales industry. After leaving Clark Simpkins, he spent many years as a pharmaceutical sales rep with Mead Johnson, then moved on to Apotex, where he retired from in the mid-1980s. Bill enjoyed his sports – whether participating or watching. He grew up playing rugby and football, enjoyed many years of coaching hockey and curling at the North Shore Winter Club in North Vancouver, competing in bonspiels with his wife or with his buddies, was a proud BC Lions and Vancouver Canucks seasons ticket holder for many years and took up golf seriously after moving to Fairwinds. He even managed to fit in 9 holes on his 90th birthday!!

In 2015, Bill and Lorraine sold their home on the golf course and moved to The Gardens in Qualicum Beach, where they enjoyed their top floor condo with a beautiful view of the ocean, a view that Lorraine loved. After Lorraine’s passing, Bill busied himself with fitness, choir, rhythm band, Quiz Night, Brain Games and pub night. And being one of the only male residents who enjoyed dancing, Bill’s dance card was always full at various social events that took place in the lounge.

He lived life to the fullest and was always quick to lend a helping hand…..he will be dearly missed.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of The Gardens at Qualicum Beach for the caring and kindness they always offered Bill. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at the Fairwinds Golf Club at Nanoose Bay, BC at a date to be announced.
