COUVIER, Willis Alexander

Aged 81 years, passed away at Nanaimo General Hospital on March 21, 2003

Born in Caravalle, Sask. but raised in south western Manitoba, Willis served with the Princess Pats in Italy from 1943 to 1945. He always conveyed the realities of war in his stories of fighting in Sicily, Ortona and Monte Casino. Injured in battle and discharged in 1945, he returned to Manitoba where he married Marguerite. They moved to Vancouver Island in 1946 where Willis worked for the CPR until retiring in 1982 and spending his retirement years in Parksville.

Predeceased by Marguerite in 1991, he will be forever missed by daughter Eunice (John) Golobar of Cassidy, sons Darryl (Shelly) of Ladysmith, Peter (Sandra) of Parksville and grandchildren Steven (Berna), Tim (Melanie), Jenny, Michelle (Chris), April (Shawn), Lindsey and Kathleen and great grandchildren Seth, Avin, Emily and Quinn.

Willis will also be sadly missed by his loving partner of 10 years, Julia Daggitt and her family, Eileen and Henry Doyle of Qualicum Beach, Theresa and Don Lucyk of Red Deer, Alta, and grandchildren Audrey, Edward, Chelsea, Chad and Jay.

There will be no service by his request. An open house will be held at 1650 Vowels Road, Cassidy on Saturday, March 29.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of NRGH.
