Winnifred Blanche Pertch (nee Domoney)

November 8, 2013

November 28, 1910 - November 8, 2013.

Just 20 days short of her 103rd birthday, Blanche was called home to be with her Lord and Saviour. Dying peacefully in her sleep, she was predeceased by Michael, her loving husband of 63 years. Born in Chilliwack, she lived most of her life in New Westminster. Blanche loved being “where the action” was. Just before the provincial election of 1952, she joined the Social Credit party and became an active member, but gave up on politics in 1991. That same year she and Mike moved to Qualicum Beach to be near family members. She enjoyed going to church, particularly when they played “the old hymns”. She loved music and picking out tunes by ear on the piano. Keeping in touch with her family and friends was an important part of her life. Gardening was her passion, and even after she lost her eyesight to macular degeneration she could be seen bending down to find the weeds by touch alone. Blanche will be remembered for her laughter, her kindness and generosity of spirit.

Her deep faith sustained her throughout her life, and she never felt alone because of it. She is survived by her son Larry (Noella), daughter, Sydney Preston, granddaughter Theresa, grandson, Darren (Karleen) and three great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Gardens, especially those who appreciated and encouraged her humour and unique character.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 28th at Qualicum Community Baptist Church, 600 Beach Road, at 2 PM.
