It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Yvonne Lien at Arrowsmith Lodge, in Parksville. She approached this new phase of her life as she always did- with dignity, courage and strength.
Yvonne, the youngest of 6 children, was raised on the family farm in Hazlet, Saskatchewan. After high school, she moved to Vancouver, with her sister and brother-in-law. Then Yvonne's sense of adventure took her to San Francisco. She was immediately smitten and moved there to pursue her dreams of theater and being a writer. It was there that she met her future sister in law. They shared some of the same dreams and were soon on their way, driving across country to New York City. Yvonne worked there as a bookkeeper in the fashion industry and continued writing and experiencing life in the 60's in the Big Apple.
After New York came Florida and California, working in the hospitality and restaurant business. In 1972, Yvonne moved back to Canada. She became further involved in the restaurant business, owning and running 3 businesses in the Victoria area.
In 1995 she moved to Parksville but her planned retirement didn't last long. She started working for her friends at Chocolates Plus as well as doing volunteer hospice work. Yvonne was able to complete a lifelong dream of writing a novel. "Sacred Knowledge" was published in 2007.
Yvonne is survived by her nieces Deb (Rene), Marcia (Jerry), Kathy and nephews Steven, Alvin and Leonard and their families.
Many thanks to Dr. Bell and the staff at Arrowsmith Lodge for your compassion, friendship and care. Her smiles will live on in our hearts! In Yvonne's memory, donations may be made to the SPCA.
