Clearcutting moratorium needed in Qualicum Beach

I admired Jack Biickerts’ letter: Stores’ demise could be environmental blessing (Letters, June 20) for his hope of an “environmental blessing” of green-treed parkland to replace the Parksville Sears store.

I admired Jack Biickerts’ letter: Stores’ demise could be environmental blessing (Letters, June 20) for his hope of an “environmental blessing” of green-treed parkland to replace the Parksville Sears store.

I wish Qualicum Beach had the same environmental concern.

At the last town council meeting on June 19, discussion of wholesale clear-cutting of treed sites (Hoylake Road at Berwick and Memorial Boulevard) was put off until completion of the Quality of Life survey on August 1, when the environmental committee might have something to say.

How many sites will be deforested by August 1?

We need a moratorium on clear-cutting in Qualicum Beach until at least Aug. 1, when environmental idealists and town council developers can dispute clear-cutting Qualicum Beach.
