It's not only election signs that clutter up the landscape in Oceanside

A recent letter concerning the ugliness of campaign signs on public lands sparked this plea for a more permanent change to our signage.

Most residents support the beautification of our city and there is a simple, fast, cost free action that would help this cause. Remove all sidewalk signage and make it illegal for businesses and other organizations to place advertising anywhere other than on their own property.

I am thinking primarily about sandwich boards and blow up toys that are ugly, dangerously distracting to motorists and a serious impediment to mobility impaired residents trying to navigate our sidewalks. An unfortunate injury could happen to anyone with the additional risk of legal consequences. Ask our prospective councillors for their views and vote accordingly.
