Ferries as a highway

Ferry issue should be an election issue for federal candidates

John Harding’s editorial about ferries in Tuesday’s paper really hit the mark. Our communities depend on B.C. Ferries and Harding is right that they should be treated (and funded) like an extension of the Trans Canada highway.

I think we should make this an issue in the upcoming federal election campaign. Conservative candidate John Duncan has already confirmed Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government thinks that the current level of federal support is acceptable, even though ferry passengers in the Atlantic provinces receive significantly more federal support than passengers in B.C.

I think that the coming federal election is a great chance to show Duncan that he’s out of touch with his constituents.
