I enjoyed the conversation on “the goose problem” and sometimes wonder what people are thinking about.
When you travel the world you quickly learn that the Canada Goose is everywhere, and many places you cannot imagine. Let me put it this way: they are not on the endangered list and create problems wherever they are.
Ducks need water for nesting and rearing their young, which is a big problem in some areas of the prairies, however the Canada Goose soldiers on in grand style. Geese moult every year, so catching them is not a problem.
Take 25 per cent of the cost of cleaning up after them and put it toward feed to clean them out before the slaughterhouse and give them to the food bank. The city would save money and have clean parks and play areas.
E-coli can be a huge problem with beaches garnished with goose droppings. The city would be saving money. There is no way this will impact the numbers of migratory geese. I cannot envision one negative thing created by culling birds in this manner that do not migrate and reside in Oceanside.
I hope that common sense prevails on this goose cull and it is started with the moult of this year.
