Help Monarch migration with milkweed

The number of monarch butterflies that overwinter in Mexico has dropped significantly in the last couple of years and, as Vancouver Island is one of their summer destinations, we are lucky enough to see them in our gardens.

They lay their eggs in milkweed, which is unfortunately now disappearing from many areas. Bottom line: if the milkweed is not available for them, we may not see them here much longer.

Packets of milkweed seeds are readily available in Qualicum Beach. Please consider planting some in your garden, so that we do what we can to help these beautiful butterflies survive.
