Keep wetlands in ALR

resident wants the City of Parksville to turn down the application to have Parksville Wetlands removed from the Agricultural Land Reserve

I am a concerned citizen in the City of Parksville asking Mayor Chris Burger, city councillors, Director of Community Planning Blaine Russell and Chief Administrative Officer Fred Manson  to take proactive steps to turn down the application to have Parksville Wetlands removed from the Agricultural Land Reserve.

It is unconscionable to even consider ignoring the services we as a whole community receive from this ecologically valuable wetland. Wetlands naturally filter and recharge the water that later comes out of our taps downstream.

The wetland ecosystem is also providing flood control and water filtration –removing human contaminants, suspended particles and excessive nutrients, improving water quality and renewing water supply.

Please think about the significance of securing this land for water conservation. I can not think of a more important legacy that this city council could provide the people of today and tomorrow. Purchasing and protecting this wetland site would represent a large return on investment by contributing towards ensuring the adequate quality and quantity of Parksville’s water supply.
