I am amazed seeing these comments but I wish they were factual.
I am one of the objectors to the use of these premises— allowing drugs to be used here. Fifty citizens to get support? Where is the support, EMT, police — not health support — as Parksville citizens find it tough to get support without going to a place that has the infrastructure in place.
She refers to two meetings attended, says “a tiny number against.” No reference to the over 1,400 signature petition against 222 Corfield St. South rezoning, the more than 10 per cent of our community and no reference to the letters to the mayor and council from many taxpayers in Parksville. No reference to the hours of speakers against and virtually 100 per cent of them from Parksville. The majority of those for the project were not from Parksville.
When it was stated “it appears to me” she has obviously not talked to any one of us who have no funding, are not professionally organized and have no political leanings. All have one common bond — we are concerned citizens who care about the community we pay taxes into and who simply want a safer place.
We, a group of objectors, love our city and the tourists it brings and anything that will damage Parksville, we will stand up to. Leanne Salter, and her ability to see the situation as it is, is the type of person who will not let an unclearly defined project force her vote. It was brave to stand her ground.
If the city was to do what is more necessary, to develop this site into affordable housing for the people who work but cannot afford to live here, there would not be the hue and cry we have raised.
