I am writing to all of you with a request for council to seriously reconsider the building of a roundabout at the foot of Memorial where it intersects Highway 19A.

This is a T-intersection which does not require a roundabout and is served well by the existing pedestrian-activated crosswalk light. The access to the businesses on the corner is already somewhat compromised and would become very awkward with a roundabout complicating matters.

As for the tendency of motorists not to slow down to the posted 50 km/h, a series of speed bumps would be very effective, and could be installed at a much lower cost.

For several years council has been asked to place a roundabout at the intersection of Village Way and Highway 19A. This is a dangerous intersection because of the complex left-turn lanes, the heavy traffic in tourist season, and the speed limit of 70 km/h. A roundabout would smooth the traffic flow and make it a much safer place. I am afraid that someone will be killed there before we get a roundabout installed.

It appears that Mr. Dennie’s petition has been ignored by council, and was not even acknowledged by the press. This is a very serious matter to the residents of Eaglecrest, those who golf here, and those who pass through this intersection regularly. Please re-open the discussion about this matter, and vote to make it safer by installing the roundabout at Highway1 19A and Village Way intersection rather than at the foot of Memorial.
